A roadmap for schools
to support the language(s) of schooling

The ROADMAP enables schools to set up a tailor-made whole-school strategy to support the development of students’ competences in the language(s) of schooling. The web-based tools help schools to develop the linguistic and critical thinking skills ALL students need in ALL subjects for learning and school success.

  • What can schools do to help all students succeed?
  • How can a school identify and address language needs?
  • What is the benefit of a whole-school approach that facilitates access to the language(s) of schooling?
The ROADMAP offers three elements to assist schools in setting up their self-constructed strategy plan:

A self-assessment tool - enabling different stakeholders (headteachers, teachers, non-teaching staff, students and parents) to gauge where their school stands in relation to a number of evaluative statements. The tool can generate an automated report so that the results can be easily broadcast and discussions initiated.

A promising practices database containing promising practices from different countries that can inspire the school to work specifically on one of the areas they decide to improve.

A coordinator`s package which contains a set of different documents to support the schools when implementing the Roadmap (i.e. a step-by-step guide, a model letter to the parents, the PowerPoint for the presentation to stakeholders, etc).

The self-assessment tool offers:

an online survey with statements for five different education stakeholders

The statements are adapted to the five stakeholders who are the headteachers, teachers, non-teaching staff, students and parents. The statements address nine thematic areas, according to which the results of the survey are organised.

a customised evaluation of the survey results

...in order to identify possible gaps between the points of view of different stakeholders and to initiate a reflection upon the situation in the school.
